School Visits

The Learning Farm is an endlessly versatile outdoor classroom where children and students can roam free whilst learning all about our natural environment and how farmers manage it.

Whether you are a pre-school, primary or secondary school, we have something for you.  We can also tailor visits for college and university students or offer field studies opportunities for projects and dissertations.  Find out more about our school visits by following the links above and download the relevant teacher pack.

Curriculum Links
To give you an idea of how we can tailor a visit to your specific curriculum requirements download our Learning Farm Curriculum Links. We specialise in and can tailor field study visits in the following areas: conservation & wildlife habitats, crops and food, weather, soils & water, renewable energy and history & archaeology.  As well as linking with the National Curriculum we also help to deliver 'Every Child Matters' outcomes and link with Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.

Charges
Charges for visits depend on length and the amount of input you need from our staff.  We have a number of 2 hour funded visits for qualifying schools, please enquire.

Location
Follow this link for detailed directions to Learning Farm and a location map.

Facilities
We have toilets and hand washing facilities as well as a field studies centre in the farm yard.  The field studies centre is heated and provides a good place for picnics (if the weather is bad), doing more detailed study linked to the visit and if the weather is truly awful then we can give a virtual farm walk using slides. Disabled access toilets are available but disabled access around the farm is limited.  There is plenty of space in the farm yard for buses to park up during the visit.

Clothing
We are a proper farm so we have all the usual mud, long grass, nettles, thistles and rough terrain so please bring your wellies or walking boots and a waterproof jacket, just incase it rains.

Risk Assessment
Risk assessments are available for all activities we do at the learning farm.  If you book a visit we will send you the appropriate risk assessments.

Talks in school
If you are not able to organise a visit to Learning Farm, or you want to find out more about it before you do, then why not ask us to come into your school and talk to your children/students.  We can nearly bring the farm to you through power point photographs, crop samples and examples of food we eat that contain crop products, soil samples and even pond life in a bucket!
