The automatic weather station monitors the following aspects of weather and takes readings every 5 minutes:
Wind speed
Wind direction
Air temperature
Relative humidity
Rainfall
Ground temperature
Solar radiation
Photosynthetically active radiation
We use this information in two ways, firstly to inform decisions about farm operations, particularly spraying where wind speed needs to be very low. Secondly to record weather in the long term so we can compare different years and the impact it has had on crops, the woodland and wildlife. The data we collect can be provided to students for weather related projects.
